You are familiar with the regular, first class stamp. Most people think of it as a “fixed fee” for mailing a letter. It is a fixed charge, but there are many components to it. |
The Post Office views the stamp revenue as several payments, used to cover the costs of each step in processsing the mail.

Think of what happens to a letter when it is mailed:
- It is brought from the mailbox to the post office
- The stamp is cancelled
- It is transported to a regional facility
- The address is read, and a barcode printed on it
- The barcoded piece is automatically sorted by machinery and
grouped with other pieces going to the same region
- It is transported to the destination regional facility
- It is sorted again and bundled it with other mail going
to the same local post office
- It is transported to the local destination post office
- It is then sorted to each individual carrier route
- Each carrier sorts the mail into the order that it is delivered
- It is carried by foot to the mailbox at the destination.
The Post Office allocates a portion of that 37 cents to each step in the process.

EZMAIL takes the mail piece as it comes from the printer, and performs all of the steps required before mailing: fold, wafer seal, insert into envelopes, seal, address, apply postage. We can even supply the mailing list!
